Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring Activities

Winter Vacation: Skiing is very inexpensive in North Carolina, comparing to other states.
I will share with you where to ski. Tubing is also fun for children and adults. Hiking is quite popular in the winter also. Take a train ride to  Tennessee from Blue Ridge.

What to do  in the Winter Season:

1. Hike in the crisp mountain air at Jackrabbit State Park (10 min drive) Nantahala Wilderness Area or Fires Creek Wildlife Area

2. Go Christmas or antique shopping.
3. Enjoy the Festivals in the Historic town squares of Hayesville, NC, or Hiawasee, GA.

4. Wine tastings a local wineries (5 minutes drive).

5. Register for a class at the renowned John C. Campbell Folk School. Learn about blacksmithing, woodcarving, jewelry making, glass blowing, quilting, or traditional dance. Participate in the Tuesday night square dance or enjoy a Friday night bluegrass concert.

6. Visit the Historic Biltmore Estate, world famous for its history as well as seasonal trees and decorations.

7.  Attend the New Year’s Possum Drop at Clay’s Corner in nearby Brasstown, NC. The most famous New Years event in the mountains.  Also enjoy the incredible fireworks display and a bluegrass show.

If you choose to stay at home, you might enjoy the peace and quiet in front of the fire place and make some s'mores. Enjoy a board game  or a movie on the ?? surround-sound system.

Fall Vacation: In the fall, the leafy foliage takes its most spectacular hues and shades. The leaves will start changing at the highest elevations. It usually occurs during the month of October, usually mid to late month, but it depends on your elevation. Millions of colored leaves become an unforgettable sight and a must-see in the Appalachian Mountains.

The Blue Ridge Parkway has east and west facing slopes. The elevation varies from 650 feet (James River, Virginia) to over 6,000 feet (Mt. Pisgah in North Carolina.)
More information  on fall color.

Summer Vacation: Click on this tab to find out what you can do in the summer.
Some activities include boating, fishing, horseback hiding, mining, zip lining  golfing, rafting, or canoeing.
You can also spend the afternoon  relaxing in the porch enjoying the long range mountain view , watch the humming birds &wild life.

Another option is to have a barbecue or  a picnic by the rushing creek and  catch some craw fish.
Spend an afternoon at the flea market in Murphy and other local stores to find some antique treasures.

Go Tubing down the river in Helen, Ga (40 min. away) and enjoy the German food and deserts from local restaurants.

Nothing in nature is more fascinating than seeing a firefly for the first time, also known as lightning bugs  showing off where hundreds of not thousands of individual lights blink on and off first randomly, and then in unison. It is also most impressive when they all go dark for a few seconds.
