This winter playground is nestled in the Great Smoky Mountains.  Breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks with  smooth and gentle slopes.  The have a beginner’s chairlift, so do not worry if you have never skied before. On the green slopes you can learn the basics. Intermediate skiers and snowboarders find plenty of action on Rock Island Run and Lower Omigosh.  Expert skiers can face the challenge of Upper Omigosh. For skiers and snowboarders looking for a challenge, the Cat Cage Terrain Park offers ramps, rails and boxes.


If  some of your family members are not interested in skiing,  check out  theTube World. This is the best snow tubing  in the valley.   Riding their conveyor lift to the top makes getting to the top of the run even easier. They also make snow.



Wolf Ridge Ski Resort  (2 hours and 15 minutes drive)

This is the closest ski resort to downtown Asheville. If you choose to ski at the Wolf Ridge, a visit to the Biltmore State is a must. This resort offers  82 acres of ski terrain, 22 runs with 5 ski lifts.

These well-groomed slopes are perfect for skiers and snowboarders.   Wolf Ridge Ski Resort  offers 15 acres of additional ski slopes, a  quad lift, and a terrain park.
Wolf Ridge also offers a tube run if you are not a skier or need a break from skiing.

APPALACHIAN SKI MOUNTAIN

There are  three ski areas in Boone: Appalachian Ski Mountain, Beech Mountain, and Sugar Mountain Resort.  They offer everything from skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing, ice skating, and lessons.
The Boone area is also home to Hawksnest, the largest snow tubing park on the East coast.

This is North Carolina's largest ski and snowboard area. It was 20 slopes with 8 lifts ranging from beginners to experts. Snow making covers 100% of the 115 acres. The 1,200 feet vertical slope is one of the favorites. The ski and snowboard school is available for beginners or experienced skiers.

The highest ski and snowboard area in the eastern U.S.  They offer 15 slopes on 95 acres  for every skill level. The vertical drop of 830 feet is the skiers favorite.   You will also enjoy the mountaintop bar.

Appalachian Ski Mountain is located in the Blue Ridge region of North Carolina.  You will find nine slopes for skiers of all abilities and five lifts that include two quads and one double chair.  Ice skaters can also enjoy the ice ring.

Hawksnest is the largest snow tubing park in this region. There are   20 lanes  from 400 – 1000 feet long.  The two conveyor lifts bring you back to the top.
